Read moreHow did a WILA invention from the year 2000 grow into a global standard for press brake productivity? Discover the story behind 25 years of New Standard.
In June 2000, during the Press Brake Productivity Days in Lochem (NL), WILA introduced its in-house developed New Standard tooling system for press brakes. This groundbreaking innovation laid the foundation for a new way of working at the press brake. What began as a revolutionary idea from WILA quickly evolved into the international standard trusted by production companies worldwide.
From the moment it was introduced, the system was rapidly embraced by press brake users across the globe. Manufacturers and sheet metal fabricators immediately recognized the advantages: shorter setup times, fewer errors, higher accuracy, and a strong focus on safety. Combined with exceptional tool life thanks to CNC‑Deephardening, New Standard quickly developed from an innovation into an international benchmark, known in the market as WILA‑style, Trumpf‑style, Amada ATC, or LVD‑style.
One of its most important features is the patented WILA Safety-Click. This mechanism allows operators to change tools quickly and safely in a vertical motion, without risk of tools falling and with minimal physical strain. Operators worldwide appreciate the combination of safety, ergonomics, and speed, making the Safety-Click a defining element of WILA New Standard tooling.
Over the years, the New Standard tooling system has continued to expand. It became compatible with automatic tool changers and robot-controlled production. With the introduction of BendSense Technology, New Standard has evolved into a data-driven standard. Tools can be identified automatically, and setups can be digitally verified. Process data can be used to monitor and improve production. Coatings such as EnduraBend help ensure consistent quality and efficiency, essential in modern, high‑demand manufacturing environments. The result is an error-free workflow, increased process reliability, and full traceability within Smart Factory environments.
After 25 years, WILA New Standard still stands for reliability, safety, and future-proof innovation. Thanks to the global community of users who continuously work with WILA to reach their next step in press brake productivity, New Standard remains the foundation for the next generation of smart and automated bending solutions.
Have you ever considered that the tooling and the back gauge are often the only components of the press brake that actually touch the sheet metal? That is exactly why choosing the right tooling system is essential. WILA, the inventor of New Standard, understands this better than anyone. Choose the original. Choose WILA.
